AVID ELECTIVE TEACHERS
Ms. Parker - 6th grade AVID
Ms. Parker is in her second of teaching the AVID elective class. In addition to the AVID elective class, Ms. Parker teaches reading intervention classes, 21st century skills class (AVID survey), 6th grade language arts, and facilitates our WICOR meetings which occur twice a month.
Ms. Parker attended the University of Virginia and here are some of her thoughts about college..."I chose to attend college so that I could attempt to make a difference in my community and to make a decent living for myself. I knew that without a college degree, my options would be limited and I
could possibly be stuck doing something I did not want to do. Regardless of what I wanted to do with that degree, I knew I wanted options and opportunities. Keys open doors, yes; but education allows you to walk in those doors and take a stance wherever you like! That's the key to success and happiness in life: OPTIONS!"

MRS. JACOBS - 8th grade avid
Mrs. Jacobs is in her fifth year of teaching the AVID elective class and was one of the first teachers to advocate for AVID in our school! In addition to the AVID elective class, Mrs. Jacobs also teaches 7th grade mathematics and is the 7th grade team leader.
Mrs. Jacobs attended both the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech and here are some of her thoughts about college..."I participated in a lot of clubs in college. I was on a coed flag football team that helped me get to know a lot of new people. I joined an Honor Fraternity which helped me maintain my grades and volunteer in the local community. I was in a social sorority for a brief time, although, I chose not to continue with it in my senior year. I volunteered at a local elementary school where I tutored young kids and helped them to gain confidence in their reading abilities."
